Incentives
As other jurisdictions increasingly provide large incentives to attract business to bolster their economies, the governments of Canada, Ontario and Toronto are taking a more targeted, strategic approach - one that provides a wide range of incentives that allow businesses to grow and prosper, but is also mindful of end results that strengthen the overall business environment.
Larger incentive programs can be short-sighted and may mask underlying problems within a given business environment, such as future tax increases, skilled labour shortages, inflation instability, exchange rate fluctuations, an inability to access short- and long-term capital, higher operating costs and the like.
Instead, the City of Toronto competes on its core business capabilities in any given sector, with a focus on the immediate and long-term advantages of doing business here.
